19TH MAY WAS THE YOUTH DAY
So i decided to walk/run for overall 40 km to emphasise the induction of walking as part of our daily life.
On the eve of 18th May, which was saturday, i started off at about 4pm from my house at Ortaköy , Lefkoşa (North Nicosia). It was somewhat hot. Open sky and sun was shining, however, still it was not as hot as it would be a couple of days later. The Spring rains had just finished, and the summer has not yet arrived in real sense.
I reached the 20km mark, which is the entry to the port city of Girne, in the expected 3 hours time. From there i turned east towards the port area, where the cousin of my wife lives. It was an another walk/run spree of about 3km. It took me 20 more minutes to reach there.
I stayed there for night and re-started my journey back to Lefkoşa the next morning (19th May) at about 7am. The road from Girne upto the Boğaz picnic point is a steep climb. I simply could not run in that 8km part obviously. I kept on climbing for over an hour, and got tired. I took rest for about 15 minutes at the Boğaz Picnic point. I ate the biscuits that i had brought along.
After the ten minutes break, i prepared myself for the 3km long sharp descent. I always like this part of the walk. I ran constantly for long patches of road. However, this time i had had to be careful, because i was having a pain in my knee, for which i had don my knee cover. However, i did enjoy my run.
Once down at the Boğaz crossing point, where the speed camera is, i looked ahead towards the long long stretch of 10km. I had had to be through that. The sun had already started effecting the weather. The weather was totally closed. There was no wind at all. It was too hot. The time must have been past 9am. I wanted to run, but preferred to walk more. Short bursts of slow running, as always remained part of my strategy.
It took me more than hour to reach the Gönyeli roundabout. This is the point where my formal walk ends. This is the point where the city of Lefkoşa starts. I walked further 2km to reach my home. It was near to 11am when i reached home.
It was a wonderful early morning adventure. I liked it.
